Looking for a sump

Glasscages can make you any sump you want for cheap, don't think there are any around for sale my buddy tried for months to get a 29 and no luck! Or Ebay has tanks that you can make your own, with baffels from Lowe's. I just sold the 36x14x16 to a friend and put a 100gal sump on mine in the garage, with all the equipment out there. No more noise and i can do 50 gal water changes without turning my tank off and no mess in the house!

how thick do the acrylic baffles have to be?

I have a 29 gallon glass tank, i need to modify that into a sump
 
I have a friend who has at least one 29g he would sell. It is just a tank and you would need to put in the glass baffles. PM me if you are interested.
 
You could just cut some eggcrate to size and silicone that in there. On mine I put a 4-5 inch tall piece of glass in and then put the eggcrate above that (standing vertically, same as the glass) and it works great, the cheato never gets into the area with my return. I'll see if I can get you a pic of it. I would second just getting glass baffles cut, it's a lot less hassle than trying to glue acrylic to glass.
 
im gona try to find a closer glass shop to Brentwood.

What about the edges on the glass baffles, do they have to be sanded down so they wont damage the silicone in the aquarium?

I had to redo my sump design since im getting the Urchin Pro

Here you go, don't mind the name on the sump :lol: it's so my neighbor's son knows where to refill it to whenever we are out of town :D

why do you have two pipes going into the drain side - on the right?

Just contacted a few glass shops here locally and found a good one. They wanted $30 for 4 pieces cut. Time to return the acrylic :)

the one i posted above is in lavergne & is less than 20 miles from you. my 1/4" pieces were $6 each & i can tell ya that acrylic pieces are gonna cost that much or more.....& will bond much worse to the glass than glass pieces will

as far as the skimmer slots....yes the eggcrate on top will work great or you can cut the slots in a glass piece. just use a diamond cutoff wheel. you can get those at harbour freight for $5 or so....and there is one in hickory hollow on your way from brentwood to lavergne

I found a shop 3 miles from my house lol.

I dont think im gona take a dremel to it..i'll just use the eggcrate

can you get those at walmart?
 
i got mine at lowes. home depot has it too.

there is no sense buying some caue it comes in 2'x4' sheets.....let me know what size ya need cause i have plenty of extra from cutting my rock wall frame :)

No problem, I thought the pic might explain it better than I could do in words.

I have 2 bulkheads in my overflow and decided to run 2 separate drains. This way if one should ever clog (and it has happened once-- a giant clump of algae that slipped out of my hand as I was trying to remove it) there is a backup. The bonus is that it's easily twice as loud through one drain so it quickly clues me in that something is amiss. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask, my whole system is DIY, including the stand and hood, so I may be able to help in other regards also.
 
Thanks james and skirossi. You guys saved me a lot of time, money and effort. I'm gona wait till i get the Aqua C Urchin Pro to get the glass pieces. I was really surprized how much cheaper glass was than acrylic.

All my stuff should be here in a couple of days.

Im almost solid on the sump, only thing i need to do is wait for the skimmer to get here to do a dry run.

Next thing i gota tackle is building the return and drain lines in the cornerflow area. I will post some pictures later on today and dont laff at them :).

I should really post a youtube video but i don't know if it will play on the website.
