Hi guys,

Which corals would you recommend for middle and upper layers?

120 gal
2xMP40
Vertex Illumina 260 3ft

Thanks

More information about your light fixture would be needed to make a meaningful suggestion. If it is a lens by lens dimable LED there are few limits to what will work. If it's a fixed intensity MH or 3w LED with strong light, choices of LPS coral becomes more limited unless you can shade them or reduce the light on them. In that case SPS is a possibility. T5 is different as well. So it depends. Tank depth & flow plays a role too.

Thanks Reef Frog. I'm newbie in this hobby and don't understand some of your questions.

The tank is 5 months old. 120 gal 48x24x24
Lights are LED Vertex Illumina 260 3ft.
UV , Blue, Royal Blue = 50%
White = 25%

I've had good luck acclimating euphyllia(torch/hammer/frogspawn) and caulastrea(candy cane/trumpet) to high levels of light. Many leathers do quite well under even the most intense lighting but they are softies.

Puks:

I assume your LED fixture is quite powerful. If true, many LPS can get bleached in the top level unless the light can be dimmed. But many will adapt to those levels if acclimated correctly. Trial & error is the only way to know for sure. I'm not famiar with your brand of light, but if you have less powerful 1watt bulbs LPS may not get bleached in the higher levels.

I would place frags in the bottom half of the tank at least for a few weeks, watching carefully. Then move them up towards your final desired location before glueing them down. Be watchful for bleaching or other negative signs and correct as necessary by moving them down again. Buying frags that have been cultured under intense LED or metal halide lifhting may be an advantage. Keep in mind most LPS don't like being blasted with super strong direct flow either.

More info on the technical specs of your light fixture & what LPS you would like to keep would be helpful too.

Here is information about the Illumina SR-260

I know that LPS are sensitive to high level of light and therefore I set White to 25%.

I'm just looking for corals that are able to grow and fill upper space of the tank.
