Looking for base rock

What's the best place to get base rock? Is there a good place locally? Or should I order from somewhere like reeferrocks or hirocks?

I like my limestone base rock... mostly cause it was free (had a friend of mine pull it from a bluff out in the country away from roads and farms.)

if you end up ordering from reeferrocks, i might go in with you.
hirrocks was ok, but i want bigger peices.

If you're inexperienced in picking it out, I'd order from reefrocks or hirocks.

If you've never picked it out before, or don't know who you're getting it from, there's a chance it could have pesitcides, impurities, etc. that would end up being big trouble down the line.

I have heard so many recommendations for Reeferrocks, but when I go to their site, the rock in their pictures just look like big lumps. They don't have any interesting shape to them at all. I guess maybe that is OK for base rock.... :-\

However, I would use fiberglass pins and epoxy in lieu of metal.

I got mine it seems like forever ago at Gateway. Chad has some good base rock as well as anything else you might want in that way...

Are you sure you're looking at reeferrocks? I have some in my tank and it has great shapes, very open with lots of holes. And not only that, but if you want rock that's a certain shape like flat, oval, round, even arched, he will try and find it for you and send you a pic of it before he ships it to make sure it looks like you want it to.
