I am on a hunt between today and Friday to find a blue spiny lobster. Size isn't an issue unless its close to fully grown, I'd like to raise it myself.

If anyone is looking to sell one, or knows of one for sale, please let me now! Thanks.

I saw a spiny lobster fs at ABC Aquarium in Fairport, this past Saturday. You may want to give them a call and see if it's still there.

Not blue, but a cool purple with some orange accents.

I just picked him up, thanks for letting me know!

Edit: if anyone sees a blue spiny lobster, let me know. He's going to need a tank mate.

You're very welcome!

When I saw it the other day it was under a rock...i could see enough it to know it was a spiny lobster but wasn't aware of the different color morphs.

Yeah there's a few but usually the blue and multi color reef Lobster.

Have you researched that keeping more than one together is doable? What size aquarium?

Yes, I've been researching on and off for a year or so. As long as there is enough room and hiding places during molting then yes they are fine to keep in multiples. This guy is going in a 20 until the dollar per gallon sale and I'll get a 40 breeder until I can find a large cheap acrylic tank. On mobile so cutting it short lol.

Yes, it is possible to have multiple specimens in the same tank as long as you have enough space, places for them to hide & enough food. The largest male usually acts a bit aggressive towards the others especially when comes to feeding time. As long as there's enough cave like rocks for them to hide, it should be good. Good luck & post us some photos!

I have a few pictures but my phone camera doesn't show the true coloring of the lobster. I like him a lot so far, although he doesn't move around a whole lot. But he does chase the feeding tweezers when I'm trying to rearrange the chaeto he knocks all around lol. He's eating chopped scallops and most of a whole piece of krill.

Most spiny lobsters don't move around during the day, they are nocturnal creatures that hunt at night in the wilds but they will get used to captivity very fast. Once it get used to it, it will hunt and eventually eat everything it finds especially invertebrates and bottom dwelling fishes.
