So the camera we have now is a little palm sized Nikon and some of the buttons quit working. So its time to upgrade. I know nothing about them but came up with the two following.

Thought this one because it has an aquarium mode. Dont know if its worth a crap or not.

SX10 IS

And this one is pretty much the same as above but with a higher resolution, 12.1 mp vs 10 mp

P90

My objective is to take some good pictures of the tank and corals. So please let me know what you think about these two or if you know a better one around the same price please let me know.

Chris

i'd go with the P90 out of those 2. but for a better price you can get a canon 50D. canon lenses are usually cheaper too.

Thanks for the input fishkid. i was leaning towards the P90. That 50D is out of my price range. Im not really looking for one that complicated. Will the P90 take decent tank shots?

What about this Pentax compared to the P90. They both have there ups and downs compared to each other. What one would you suggest? I still lean towards the P90.

Pentax X70

don't know anything about the pentax. at the camera shop by my house the canon 50D is cheaper then then the nikon P90 by 100 bucks. i was going to go with the P90 but i went with the 50D because it was water resistant and a few other things.

that or a pentax K10d/ K20d would do well

taken with either of the above two. you can find them very cheap used (300-400 for k10d and 5-600 k20d)

Those are some HUGE zoom ranges. Unless you have Super Bowl, excuse me, "The Big Game" tickets why bother? It will be of little use for your reef.

The P90 is 400 bucks. I did a search for the 50D an can only find models over 1000. Am i looking at the correct 50D? If so, like i said above, its above my price range and needs.

I almost went and bought the P90.
Then I decided to hold off until September
Save a couple hundred more and pick up the new D3000

You can't compare a P90 and a D3000. You can't compare a SX10 to a 50D. I think your logic is airing on the side of ridiculous.

Guy #1: I'm deciding on a clownfish for my 20g. Tomato clown (SX10)? True Perc? (Pentax)? Skunk (P90?)
Guy #2: Definitely the Naso Tang.

Now I personally think the P90 and SX10 are bad choices but for different reasons. They aren't built for reef tanks. Get a Canon G10 or something in that genre.

whos comparing the P90 with the D3000?
I just said I thought about getting the P90 then decided to hold off and get the D3000 when its available.
its a few hundred more and lots more features

well yea, accessories always pump up the price :)

$400 for a P&S
$600 for a good entry level DSLR
seems almost like a no-brainer to me :)

i just bought a Panasonic (lumix) DMC-TS1. it's a $350 point and shoot camera that is waterproof to 10 feet. i actually put it down into the tank to take macro shots and i can take it to the beach and on the jet skis with me.
