Looking for clams... some advice please

I am looking to put 3 small clams to put in my 30g and was hoping you guys with lots of clams could offer me some good places to start looking.

I am thinking that i want to get 3 small maximas. 1 blue, 1 purple, and perhaps 1 teardrop. As For the size, i am thinking the blue and the purp in the 2" range and the teardrop in the 2.5-3" range.

Or do you guys have some other suggestions on species of clams that i should be considering?

Thanks

Garrett

PS these will be going into my 30g SPS only tank... fish=1 red mandarin, 1 pistol shrimp, some hermits and thats about it other than SPS under a 250W 20k DE setup.

I would start out with a T. Squamosa. They are usually pretty hardy. T.Maximas and Crocea's are a little more challenging. Try to start with bigger clams. Smaller ones will definitely need to be fed Phyto, like DT's. The younger the clam, the more dependent it is on Phyto. Larger clams depend more on their symbiotic algae for energy. As long as you provide good lighting (MH and Actinic) you should be fine. Dont get me wrong, you can successfully keep the smaller clams, you will just need to feed them.

Check out WWW.EASTCOASTCLAMS.COM awesome site for clams. The owners name is ROB and he always has nice stuff. He gets mostly captive raised clams too, which is cool.

Ditto to Aquaholics comments, except I'd suggest a 3"-4" crocea. You don't have a large tank, and they don't get as large as maximas or squamosas. I've heard good things about East Coast Clams, but I can speak from personal experience that Barry at ClamsDirect.com has great clams and top notch service. Either place will deliver you a beautiful, and more importantly, healthy clam.

thanks you guys!

This actually isnt a stand alone tank.. it is inline with my 100g thats got all kinds of stuff going on in it ;) lol

I usually add golden pearls and cyclopeze every other day to the tank for the SPS is this too big for clams?

Phyto and light supply clams with their energy needs, as best I've read. I feed Golden Pearls and Cyclop-eeze as well, but I don't think it benefits my clams.
