Looking for Clowns

I am in the market for a mess of clownfish like 4-6 of them. Is anyone breaking down a tank or anything and looking for a home for some clowns? I am mainly looking at perculas and oscillaris although Picasso's would be BA! lol Let me know if anyone knows of anything. If I can't adopt I will probably order some Percs through Ultimate.

Hope that you are not going to place them all in your 90 gal tank. After a while they will fight. Then you will be lucky to get out with two. My 2c.

Aren't Picasso's like $100+ a piece???? or more? I didn't think that clows were a schooling fish? Like ade said I think you would have some problems with that. I've seen 3 picasso's together in a 120 and she had good sucess with them, but she also had a hadoni anem. that was about 14"+

Good luck. Post pix when you can.

I've heard varying opinions on the schooling of clowns. Some people have told me it will work out fine, and others have told me it won't I don't know. I was thinking about doing a school of green chromis but I have heard that they will pick each other off over time.

I would suggest reading Joyce D. Wilkersons book "Clownfishes" ..It has some extremely valuable inforamtion on all species of clowns and will be extremely valuable if you do decide to go ahead with it.

I am not saying it can not be done, just not sure I would do it in a 90 gal. I would wait until you setup your 500 gal.

agreed ... I would say in the first few months while all inhabitants were juvenile , you would have moderate success , but as soon as sexual morpihng started to come into play , you would have issues IMO

I'd cease listening to these people any more.

For a bit of a reality check, don't expect any fish to school in your tank. Most tanks just aren't big enough to induce that type of behavior. Schooling is a defensive strategy. The absence of predators and the lack of space is more likely to induce territorial battles between multiple fish of the same species.

IMHO, stick to pairs.

Yeah I hear you guys I am just trying to come up with some interesting unique ideas for my tank. With the skimmer I am running I should be able to have quite the bioload. I am thinking now of just doing various species carefully and slowly. I currently have a sailfin tang, but I really want a powder tang. What is the feelings on housing the two together as I know they can be very territorial.

You may be able to support a high bioload but I would be more worried about space within the tank for the fish themselves, jam a lot in there and you are bound to have compatibility issues (even with your really clean water). As for the tang issue some will say that a powder blue needs more swimming space then what a 90 can give but its really a matter of opinion (some would probably even say the same in regards to the sailfin), another issue with powder blues is they are notorious for getting sick early. At the same time know many people who have had multiple tangs in 50-60 gallon tanks and the tangs seemed happy/healthy

With all that said I am probably not the best person to give advice on fish b/c I use to be known for having quite a few myself and pushing the bar.

Well pushing the bar doesn't bother me, if a fish doesn't work out I have this wonderful network right here to find a happy home and I have a frag tank and close friend's tanks for temporary homes. I don't see the rewards without taking some risk. I think the swimming space will be alright, my sailfin has been wonderfully happy and this tank will only be around for another year and a half tops until I get my 500 gallon setup.

I agree- with all of the above-Also they may fight to the death B4 you have a chance to get them out- I would not do it to them- Ive had Chromis 5+ they were fine- but clown Naw they WILL fight over that sized tank-Patients is the KEY-TRUST ME I KNOW- Waite till you get the 500 1st
