Welcome to SCMAS.

Haven't seen many different kinds of them, just the typical sandy color. They do a pretty good job keeping the sad stirred up though.

Be sure to visit the Mugshot & Screen Name post and put up a picture of yourself so we will know what you look like and can say "HI" if we see you at the LFS's.

The draw back to sand sifting stars is they will destroy your pods unless you have a great regugium to replace them.

Do the pods also live in the live rock? I don't think the stars can get them in there. At least I hope they will live in the live rock cuz that's where I tried to put the last batch.

Yeah they do great in the live rock, but most are on the sand bed and scurry all over. The whole sand sifter deal has been talked about before here on RC, and when I had three for a year my pod population was very small. Since I traded them off, my pods are doing very well.

I have two Sand Sifting Stars and I'll feed them pieces of shrimp, just stick the shrimp in the substrate. My PODS in the Ref are alive and kickin I'm good to go here. Should have now problem finding a Star at the LFS. Define cool, don't get a Chocolate Chip Star for a reef they will eat your corals, they don't sift sand anyway.

Aren't you going to introduce your fiance' properly Tim?? :)
Huh??? I tried to get her to come to the meetings but it's not her thing. There would have to be some scrapbooking going on.

Those are cool, was it a Linckia star I looked up the care and feeding of these. From what I've read they would do best in a Refugium, they are a delicate star. The diet is hard to keep and would require extra care. Although I probably dont have to I always feed my chocolate chip a small portion of nori or green seaweed once a week. Keep looking....

I think he was refering to the young lady as your avatar.

Maybe that is an idea for meetings, the reef club meeting upstairs and some activity for Significant Others downstairs. Kelly finds it more intertaining to chill in the car with a magazine than come in the fish stores.
