Looking for Crabs...

But not the ones you may be thinking about ;)

I actually want some to feed my mantis and maybe a snowflake eel... I have acquired some periwinkles but would like some crabs... where might be they be found.. guessing at low tide in tide pools possibly, any particular spots they seem to be most plentiful?

I am in the Pemaquid on Weds, that would be ideal....Think they be available through out the winter? Jason, what's your opinion? It's been a long time since I have hunted for sea critters, with the exception of last suumer and hthe shrimp hunt...usually it was starfish and sandollars, and the only crabs I found were empty shells..

Last time we were seining to the river it was slim pickin's. Only got a few shrimp to feed to my rays and no crabs. You might find some crabs at low tide in the pools though. Dress warm though as the ocean is cooling down. Where abouts in Pemaquid? Just up the road a bit is Round Pond. There is a nice tide pool there. Dawn have you been there?
Best place to find them is under rocks at low tide.

Round Pond is one of our favorite places to go for lobster ... are you talking by the boat launch? Would I be wasting my time looking for them in the fall and winter?

Thanks Jason

I think you may still find some. I would guess with winter temps they will head for deeper water. Exposure at low tide in January isn't much fun.
Not sure where the boat launch is in Round Pond. But, it may be a good area to hunt.
