Darren's DIY Calcium Reactor http://www.melevsreef.com/dj88.html
Calcium reactors are one of the simplest things to DIY. All you need is some container to recirc water through. I have used old Ozone reactors, carbon reactors and water filters. Once you have a recirc loop, you inject CO2 right in front of the pump (best location), with the a water in and water out line and you are done.
using this method, how is one to regulate the amount of CO2 entering the system. Wanting to try this but interested in how to regulate the amount going into my system.
Main concern is I travel and will not be able to make immediate changes.
The yeast driven co2 setup is not great, but it does work. The problem is you can no regulate the amount of co2 to any good degree, other than by varying the amount of yeast and sugar and water.
I built a reactor off of the plans from wmtasker that was posted above by mavgi. It works really nicely. I DIYed a second chamber and here is a thread for that:
you can make the chamber taller to hold more media for a larger system like yours. you can also make it a dula chamber by simply redoing the recirc plumbing.
I built the DJ88 unit but made it larger. I am using it on a 430 gal system. I can post a pic if you want, but it is a dual chamber unit in one housing. It works great and its easy to build and set up.
