looking for dolomite

Dolomite is CaMg(CO3)2 Calcium Magnesium Carbonate. As a carbonate is will dissolve into the aquarium water in the same pH range as Calcium Carbonate, so it can be used in a pH reduction reactor, such as a Calcium reactor, to add magnesium to the aquarium water.

yeah, what mflamb said. He gave an awesome explanation:)

on that note is there any local rock quarries around?

Dolomite gravel is used as a chicken feed additive and can be found at local feed stores. Just a few words of caution, I would thoroughly test what ever material you use. Think PO4, a lot of it. Common sources are not particularly pure.
