Any suggestions on an easier to use calcium test that provides accurate results? I purchased the Seachem test over the weekend and just has too many steps to test.

Let me know if you have one you like better or if I should just suck it up an get used to the one I bought.

go with the salifert its very easy to use.I have the Seachem aswell and I always get 60 to 100 ppm diff from other kits and the test kit wasn't cheap.

I useed SeaChem before I switched to Salifert. Salifert is more accurate, and VERY easy. All you do is Add 8 drops of this, a Spoon of that, then put the reagent in and DONE! No counting, they give you a nifty table to.

On a downside from LFS these kits go from $20-40 depending on test, but I forgot someone posted a comparison sheet, if its permited I cna post it, just need an OK first ;)

Salifert,

When I first used it i used to level the spoon at the opening of the vial as i pulled the spoon out of the powder, didnt realise that this is circular of course and gave weird readings, now swipe the top of the spoon with a piece of straight card.
Gee whizz thats hard to explain.

That scoop part is not an exact amount needed. It creates an intermediate that a little less or a little more is irrelevant. That's why on the low resolution you give 1/2 scoop. Well, w/o a 1/2 scoop included you would never be that close. Just take a rounded scoop and give it a little back and forth shake to level it off.

The only problem I had at first was measuring the sample.
I drew in sample to the 1 ml line, but in fact, you have to fill the sample collector to the base of the bulb. At that point, the readings is correct testing the standard solution.

I to started with Seachem and other Calcium tests but ended up with Salifert. The color change is better and you dont have to count drops.

try thereefstop.com for some great prices on salifet tests. He's a sponser now so I guess it's ok to post that.
