Hi, I am thinking about buying a tank from glasscages.com and was wondering if any one has had problems with their tanks. Feedback of any kind positive or negative would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking about either a 65 gal 36"x24"x17" or 95 gal 36"x24"x25". if you have any thoughts you can pm me
Thank you,
Fred

The first experince I had with them was a disaster. Plain and simple. Bad customer service, etc.

But you can't argue with their prices.

I just (a month ago) ordered a 120 rimless from them. Night and day. Customer service was awesome. Tom customized everything I asked for. I even had a nice discussion with him when I picked my tank up. Couldn't be happier.

Bottom line: Their prices are great as well as the build quality. Just don't hold a grudge if you catch them on a bad day :p

thanks for the info I've been hearing about bad customer service and sloppy silicone work but everyone has said they are strong tanks.
thanx,
Fred

I have a glasscages 90 gal and it is several years old been moved a couple of times and still no leaks. I like it.

if i'm not mistaken, one of the guys in the reptile store of the aquatic critter told me they get their reptile habitats from them. i have heard of several people w/ their tanks, but no 1st hand experience.

my only experience so far was pricing cut pieces of glass for a custom build & i have to say that they were like WOAH cheaper than any glass business i checked in nashville for same pieces

I had a 270 and bought another 270 from them recently. My first was cut up like swiss cheese on the bottom with 9 extra holes for a closed loop and all was just fine. Beth called me to conferm it be OK they move my hole placements a little to work with there bracing system before just doing it which was nice. The first time I called I learned in a fast way they were not gonna "discuss" any tank builds or design ideas and to call back when I knew what I wanted, which I did and had no problems with them at all.

I guess a lot of folks tend to call and want to talk tank and get there opinion on things but thats not how they work. Second tank I ordered I called, told beth the dementions, specified end overflows centered on either end, 2 sides starfire and 4 sections for 4 halides instead of the typical 3 in my size tank and was on the phone a total of maybe 5-7 mins including giving my CCard info. They called in about 2 weeks and told me to come and get it. This is how they like to work ;).
Is the silicone a little sloppy, yep but nothing a razor can't fix. Have I read all the horror stories about the bad attitudes, and bad customer service, yep. Would I buy from them again, yes and did. I mean if I was loaded I might get a fancier brand tank because the black trim rims do look sleaker than theres and I do not really like the bracing on the inside bottom of the tank. But for what I paid for my tanks including 2 sides of starfire on this one you would be crazy not to buy from them.
I actually did have a warenty issue with the first tank with a chip and emailed pics and talked to Tom more than once and he was not at all the grouchy, rude guy you read about. He told me what he thought happened to it and was very matter of fact that it was not a manufacturing defect but not mean spirited. He assured me it was totally fine and would hold water and it has for well over 2 years including a recent move which is always stressful on big tanks.

Hope this helps!

i dont have any first hand experiences with them either....but i must say...they produce a massive amount of tanks.....obviously they have plenty of happy customers ...but you know how it goes when someone has a problem....the "negative" people are always more outspoken on online forums such as this one....problems will arise in any type of manufacturing process simply because people do make mistakes...doesnt matter if its glasscages, perfecto,AGA

whenever i get my next big tank, i plan on using them simply because their price is unbeatable......am i taking a risk? sure!...but to me, buying a used tank off of craigslist is too! ...heck, buying a new one is too...so yea, i'll take the risk on a company that builds aquariums for a living

Thank you for all the replies, I'm glad ya'll took the time to help me make my decision. Most of the people that replied said they would buy from them again.
Thank you,
Fred

I've been using a 1/2 10 gallon (5 gallon) as a coral tank for the past couple of years with no problems at all (knock on wood). I'd imagine that this is the cheapest, quickest tank made by them......and has served me well.

I have had my 90 up for 3 years, went their got a tour of the place and picked up my tank, i like them alot, if i upgrade i will go there

I had an emergency with a tank that I didn't get from them, needed to replace the overflow ASAP, and they had me down that day, custom cut the overflow for me, made an acrylic cover on the spot, set me up with great bulkheads and CHEAP silicone as well.

Good guys as far as I'm concerned.

I had a custom 60 cube made. Great to deal with just know what you want before you order. Also the tanks are built like ..well a tank. My 60 cube weighs a ton!!!!

I have a buddy that has a 180 from them. The only thing that he has had a problem with is that there is a rather large (2.5"+/-) chip one of the edges. It either came from the move after picking it up or during the maufacturing process. Either way, it has held up for over a year now. I believe that he even spoke with Tom at a frag swap a few months back about it and he said that it should hold up.

Beides that, the only other thing i would say is that the black trim is somewhat cheap and it seems to come off pretty easily. Not a big deal.

I will look at getting a tank from them when i upgrade from my current 180...

I have Angela's old 270 and I've been happy with it. It is a beast weight-wise, but I've been pretty happy with it. The trim, as someone else mentioned is pretty "crappy" but I honestly just ripped it all off (the hood and stand covered it anyway). I also own 2 of their half 15 tanks for frag swaps and they've been great for that. Their silicone is a little sloppy (as everyone has said), but again you're paying for what you get. As long as it holds water and I can be pretty sure of that, I'm not going to be incredibly concerned over what the silicone looks like.

My only comment is that you might be able to find a mass produced tank (i.e., not custom) with similar dimensions to those you are looking for. The smaller the tanks get the less competitive GC's prices are (unless they are really custom job or have really weird dimensions). If you're looking at shipping to SC, you might be able to get more tank for the same price if you just shop there instead. If you do need it really customized, then I'd say GC is the way to go... just know what you want when you call.

I've been out to GC a couple times.

They had trouble finding a tank I was picking up and while I was waiting Tom showed me around. This was when the acrylic shop was new so we spent a lot of time there. It was cool seeing tanks being made. They found the tank and loaded it for me.

I have a 70 gallon tank from them. I like it. I have their stand and canopy too.

I like that they can custom build anything you want. Need a hole over here, no problem. Want two holes over there, they can do that too. Want rimless, or euro-brace?...Check!

Like Angela said, they don't have time for hand holding but if you call and know what you want you'll have no problems.

Hey y'all:

we ought a used classcages 90 gallon tank a few months ago and just finished setting up and cycling- so far so good- I had called them a few months ago before we found a used one and thet were super nice and very helpful- also for beginners they sell a cool reef keeping dvd...

Absolutely no problems out of my tank. Going on about a year and a half.

They can be a little difficult on the phone, but just be sure to tell them exactly what you want and they will provide and at an amazing price, too.
