Looking for Flame Angel

I would love to get one from someone that has already had one in a reef tank to help limit the risk of nipping at corals.

I've seen two in the last month or two from local reefers that are selling off their tanks but I was a day late on each of them.

If anyone has any friends with tanks that are going to be taken down or know a good source for a nice Flame Angel I would love to know about it.

Thanks!!

Not currently in a tank, but Seven Sea's has one, or did when I was there this morning. Looked to be a nice fish..

I have one in my tank and love it.

Thanks guys!

I would love to find a local reefer but I imagine I will have to end up buying from Marcye and rolling the dice.

Wanted to put the feelers out there for a bit and see if anyone had one.

Cham, just to let you know the Flame angel is one of my favorite fish. I had one start nipping on me though so I had to give it away. Then I adopted one out of someone else's tank that DIDN'T nip for 2 yrs ( very trusted source) 1 yr later he also started to nip, and had to give him away also. Just something to think about, good luck, James

Hey James, hows the car painting business going? Word on the street is your working at another LFS?

Yeah, the flame is a roll of the dice. Honestly I like the emperor better and don't mind raising a juvi but I think they may get too big for my 110 so I am setteling for one of my other favorites. The flame.

They have a really healthy looking flame at sea life in Apopka right now. He has been there for over a week. Not sure of the price, but he is very healthy looking.

I've heard the same thing over and over about most angels in reef tanks. And that is, if you vary their food enough they will leave the corals alone for a while, and eventually most become nippers. Not talking about all angels, just primarily heard this about dwarf/pgymy angels, and the like.

Hmmmm. Interesting, I have not heard that before.

Can anyone offer more info on this concept. Are the dwarfs more inclined to nip than the full size angels?

Charles, If you value your corals, I'd think twice. I've had lots of customers who thought they were great for a while and then out of the blue they started having problems. It really is a roll of the dice, as you said, but I think the odds are definitely on them nipping eventually. Shame, too, as they are such a gorgeous fish.

Man I hope not, I really like mine. I have a hard enough time with corals as it is. I dont need my fish eating them.

Wow, I was under the impression you could get ones that either will or will not nip.

Makes me rethink me whole idea.

i have never wished death more on a fish than my flkame angel....the ick fairy finally took him. If i were you i wouldn"t take the plung. I will never own anything that even looks like an angel ever again...in a reef tank that is.

Yeah, I'm on nano-reef.com, and a bunch of different people started a pygmy angel thread (I know its another species of angel, but i think the same sort of thing applies), a bunch of them listed off that they had just bought theirs, and slowly over the next couple months you saw them all getting rid of theirs because they became nippers. I wouldn't do it as others have said unless you've got a quick solution on who do get rid of him too when it starts nipping.
