ive got a 180g reef and im putting a vlamingi tang in, looking for someone that might have one in a reef also. are there any does or dont that i might need to know?
A Vlamingi Tang will outgrow a 180 relativity quick even if a small specimen is obtained. IMO nothing smaller than a 350 should house one of these tangs. reason I know is I had one in my 180
Yeah, I agree with kevin mcg. Those tangs get huge fast and really do better in larger systems than in 180's. If you know of somewhere with a large tank that can take it when it gets too large than you could get a small specimen and let it grow for awhile and donate it to the larger system. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it.
They are relatively fast growing and one of the larger Tangs, but one of the better reef citizens. Get a small one and keep it for a few years. There's always someone willing to buy a quality large fish.
I'm going to put one in my 390. Definitely my favorite Tang.

Sure, just don't get carried away!!!
I really like your part of the world. I flew over Mount Saint Hellens very early on May 18, 1980, on the way to Abbotsford International Air Show just north of you in a USAF plane. The next 24 hours was very interresting. We couldn't fly out, so we stayed a couple weeks, and wandered down to Seattle area, a real cool waterfall...it was something like Snoqualmie Falls. I went back a few years later and dove the Gabriolla Islands to get some pics of a some very cool Stonefish and Woolf Eels.
IMO, vlamingi tang grow super fast compare to any other tangs. I bought mine last year in Oct - Nov time. It was less than 3", after six months being in my 240 cube. He turned into a giant (8"-9"). I love the fish cuz he is the nicest fish in the tank. never touch anything (beside breaking my SPS while chasing his food), never pick on anything. BTW, he poo a lot Here is his latest pic May 07
Hello thereef, they get along just fine. I have the pair of Percs in my tank for 6 months, none of them want the RBTA. So i add the Maroon and he is all over it. As long as the percs don't get near the RBTA, my maroon leave him alone.
Last week i try to remove the RBTA, the Maroon attacked me .
