Anyone know where I can get some locally ( that is from non LFS places). Tried Ralps, target, walmart...all dead ends...

grocery store inthe canning section. Mrs. Wages is the brand. $1.58 for i pound container. doseage is 2 level teaspoons per gallon of water. add as needed for top-off. apply in high flow area with slow drip. watch the pH, all Lime is about 9-14 pH when hydrated. REEF-ON!!!

not in so cal =)

i ordered some mrs wages online. if you want to pick up a package ill give you one for $7. i ordered from that yahoo store. drop me a pm if you want some.

The only place you will have canning supplies in So Cal that I am aware of is OSH. This time of year with the cucumbers coming in, they might just have it.

But I know more than one reefer who went for the food grade kalk buy a couple years back and had horrible hair algae problems while using it. The pharma grade is not that much more expensive, so unless you go through a LOT of kalk, it's not worth saving $5 a year to take the risk..

I have a 50 LB bag in Irvine and would sell you a few pounds. Just bring something to put it in.

what is this stuff?

Food grade Calcium Hydroxide.....I'm guessing its the same stuff I sold last month.

So 2 teaspoons per gal. If I lose a gal per day to evaporation, then:

1 lbs = approximately 2 cups of this stuff
2 cups = approximately 70 teaspoons

so 1 lbs will last me about 35 days

So i'll need about 10 lbs for 1 years supply.

10 x $10 lab grade vs 10 x $2 food grade is pretty significant per year. Okay $80 is not much significant for not having to deal with hair algae.......but....that's another coral/fish I could get?

is it 2 tablespoons per gallon of total water volume of system or per gallon of top-off??

With the group buy just a few months back, there should be plenty of reefers w/ the stuff.

(sshh... I have 4- 50lb bags stashed in my garage). :)

I don't come anywhere near using that much. Your actual use will depend on your system, not a flat rate of product.

I went way overboard and got 6 buckets full of this stuff! If you need a bucket let me know; $25/5 gallon bucket-holds approximately 26 lbs and comes with a hammer-shut I/O bucket.....
