Looking For Live Rock

I was wondering where the best place to go for some partially cured to fully cured live rock to add to my new 14 gal bio cube? What kind of price per lb should I be expecting to pay? I'm located in Omaha, NE. I have been told that I should have around 1 lb of rock per gallong of water as a general rule of thumb.

Also, what is everyone's opinion of adding Purple Up and Black Powder to the rock after I purchase it? I have been told that these two products are worth their money.

I appreciate everyone's input!

In my opinion Petland has some of the nicest looking rock in town. They have several types which is why it may be the best place for you to look. They have some regular type of rock but also have some tonga branch so you could probably make a cool structure with the combo of the two. You will probably have to pay $6 top $9 a pound for rock.

As for Purple Up and Black Powder I have tried both and am not sure either helped that much. I have found the best thing for me is a calcium suplement and time. One thing I hated about Black Powder is that it is exactly that, a black powder, very messy in my opinion.

not sure about where to get rock around your area but black powder and purple up IMO are not worth it if you keep your calcium, and alk levels where they need to be.

I have 10lbs of fully cured live rock that I can get rid of for $6 a pound. Its been in my tank for 2yrs PM me if you would like more info. Anthony

Thanks for the information guys. What product / brand name do you use for calcium and what level should I keep the calcium at for optimum growth? Also, how many pounds should I have for my 14 gal. bio cube? I appreciate your feedback!

IMO the best and easiest way to keep your calcium up is to drip kalk as a top off (calcium levels are good in the 350 range I believe). Since the bio cubes are sealed up (lid with no opening to either the main water or the water in the filter area) it may be kind of tuff to have a drip line to the tank. I have used purple-up in the past and it seems to do a good job. I would be careful though, you don't have a lot of water to work with and it would be easy to over dose. As for the live rock the general rule is 1lb per gal of water (if you have the room). Maybe the 10lbs that TonyQ has would fit your needs pretty well.
