Looking for local reef club

Hi,
I live in Roanoke and am new to the hobby. I wanted to ask if there are any local reef clubs in or around Roanoke VA?
Thanks

welcome to the hobby. Not really a club anymore, a lot of people in the area have faded out of the hobby. There are a few people scattered around the area, who browse the forum occasionally but as you can see not a lot of traffic.

If you are looking for corals I can hook you up with all kinds of stuff really cheap. Have over 400 gallons of tanks full of corals. Also have some equipment as well. Live between forest and Bedford, if interested just send a PM.

Jorge

Thanks for responding Jorge…I will definitely keep you in mind. We already plan on getting a bigger tank at some point. Do you have a store?

No I have a full basement with a 180, 220, 93, 90, and a 40 long frag tank. I actually bring stuff in to the stores for store credit. I help support my addiction to the hobby by selling and trading. I also give away freebies of some stuff.

I have a bunch of used equipment I recently started parting with. Everyone on the forum and people who work at the pet stores know me. As most have done a fair amount of stocking their tanks from my basement. Have a wide variety of LPS and SPS and a few softies as well. The only way you will get a better deal is to get stuff free.

Anyways welcome again and there are some people in the area just not very active as a club.

There's the Blue Ridge Reefs and Roanoke valley reefers groups on Face Book. Not a whole lot of hobbyist in Roanoke.

Thanks for responding Jorge"¦ Do you have a store?

I don't know, I'm pretty sure if you put a sign above Jorge's front door and driveway entrance, you could easily call his basement a store!

I feel like a kid in a candy store when I walk down there..

Yea Jorge's collection is quite impressive and as he said prices better than you will find anywhere. I am not sure if you are currently looking for anything but I am selling my 220 gallon set up here in Lynchburg. I created another thread with some photos and info.

There are a few of us in Salem that are reasonably serious, but we don't seem to network much.

Jorge is the man. You'll not find a more experienced and generous reef-keeper in the area.

I appreciate all the input. We are absolutely new at this and are struggling to 'get it right', but I'm hoping we can get a handle on things. The hardest part is not knowing what to do to fix things that aren't right…so stressful. Just when you think you got it, something else goes wrong. It's driving us crazy!

I saw your other post and WOW. I would love it but there's just no way after all the money we have just spent getting our tank up and running. Good luck!

Ask for advice in the group here. Post some pics and start asking questions. There are many individuals with years of experience that are willing to share what they know.

Offer will stand until the tank is gone. Right now its up and running and dont plan on breaking down unless all fish and coral were gone first.
