Looking for Nano Ideas.

My job just moved downtown and I have a pretty new office. I think a nano on my desk would be perfect. If you could build a small setup at work, what would you do?

I think Dave still has this one going:

I'm telling you...my next venture will be a planted nano. I love my sw tanks but the planted fw's are so calm and peaceful.

I have a couple of nanos at work and at home, and I have found that simple is better, especially at work. Various softies can be spectacular (colors!), and if you don't have any fish (or keep it to one tiny one) that means that your organic input is greatly reduced, which then means your need for water changes is reduced - still there but not as frequent. Trust me - it is hard to find time to "work" on a tank at work!

I have found that keeping it simple does not mean it can't be cool - zooanthids, mushrooms, GSP, anthelia, xenia, small photosynthetic gorgonians, etc. can make up quite a nice small tank. Hell, my 5g at the office has simply a large mass of zooanthids and a few large Kenya trees with a clownfish - not fantastically colorful, but definately interesting, especially to all the non-reefers, including my students.

Thanks for the input guys. I think zooman is right. Less is more at work. I've got GSP, Kenya Trees, mushrooms and zoas that I can frag so stocking will be easy. If I go with a 5-10 gallon tank, PC lights and a hang on back filter for carbon and flow I should be good to go with minimal effort and upkeep.

Block head is right (and I forgot to mention earlier), having a cover greatly cuts down on evaporation, which can be significant quickly in small tanks. I think this is one of the great advantages of the AIO's, but can also be done with any tank - I simply had glass cut for my tops.

Justin has another good point - freshwater nanos can be pretty sweet too - I have a 5g at the office with rocks, java moss, anacharis and 6 white cloud minnows that is simple and interesting - the fish like it so much the females are spawning in the moss. The only issue is that some plants (like anacharis) grow too fast.....
