Looking for new Ca reactor. Geo or Reef Octopus??

i did some tests on a friends tank. (built him a second chamber for 20$ in acrylic) and his raised from 6.5 to 6.8-6.9

i think there is variance between peoples setup because some people run different flow rates through them, and also you have to think if the second chamber is a tall or short one. (taller will mean more water hits more media before exiting while a short fat one might hold the same amount of media, but doesnt hit all the media)

The aquarium engineering one listed above is made by bill wann do a google search and check out his tank and system. its cool
but his is a slight copy of the schruran reactor. (as far as sucking effluent water from 1-2" from the lid where some CO2 can puddle. and it also has a 1/4" line going from the lid to the pump to re-circulate any CO2 back into the reactor.)

on my MRC, i stuck a 1" piece of RO tubing into the lid fitting so my reactor pulled effluent from down in the reactor.

my setup might not have needed the second chamber since i only ran my PH at 6.8, but it doesnt hurt, doesnt use any extra electricity.

I know folks that run their effluent into a container or cup, in the sump, with an air stone in it. I've never had pH issues with my single chamber Geo.

this works too, but then you need an air pump, and you have to maintain the stone and what not.
a tube with media is just as easy and requires no maintenance and electricity.

I have the reef octopus sro5000D on a 300 gal mixed reef and it has run reliably for a year and a half. It's big! And the second chamber is effective at raising the pH of the effluent. Overall, I would definitely recommend it. There's a good thread that a guy posted describing the unit and his experience with it. Convinced me to buy it...

Mtc procal, and if you need bigger he custom makes larger ones...IMO best out there, I had a geo did not like the single stage, then I bought a used mrc cr-6 but it was shipped broken. I repaired it, but never got it to run correctly. Thenone of my friends upgraded his system and got one of the giant procals so I bought his old one. Blows the doors off the other two I had.

I've seen all the CRs listed above and will still stand behind the CR I bought for my system, carries a lifetime warranty and is 100% PVC cylinder, plates, fittings that are 100 times durable than acrylic.

If you want Bill's number, shoot me a PM.

Nice, but nowhere near as sophisticated as a DaStaCo.
No pH controller needed. Measure your alk, twist a dial to set and everything is automated. It even alarms when you are out of co2, or there is a flow obstruction.

You're right Mo. I have a DaStaCo and would highly recommend it with only one reservation -- cost. Not for the unit, it is well worth the cost, but for shipping from Belgium to the US. Once the company gets enough interest to start shipping pallets of them stateside, then we will see many more of them in service here. But if you can stomach paying almost half as much for shipping as for the unit, then by all means, get a DaStaCo.

acesq,

just looked at your thread on the reactor, I not sure how much a unit for a 750 gal tank would cost as it is hard to find cost information on them.

Send an e-mail to Aissa or Jurgen at aquamarinesupply: aquamarinesupply@hotmail.com

They will help you with sizing and cost. I have found them to be very helpful.

You can also check out the H20aquatics website in the UK for more info on the various sizes.
