Looking for new return pump

I have a mixed reef in a 120 AGA tank and am using a Mag 12 to return water from my sump now.

It is in the sump and I am sure puts alot of heat back in the water. I have been thinking of getting a new pump to lower the heat input and maybe be more quiet as well.

I have 2 Tunze 6000's in tank so I have a decent amount of flow not counting the return pump.

I was looking at the Eheim 1262. The calculator in this site doesnt have the 1262 as a pump to pick but comparing it to the 1250 and making adjustments from the differences there it looks like the 1262 will be at around 700 gph with the plumbing I have versus 736 for the mag12. If that is accurate, I dont think I would miss the difference in flow.

What pump would you use and why?

The 1262 is definitely a nice pump, but it doesnt really save you anything on the heat front. Its still a ~100w submersible. (Its still water cooled if you run it externally). If you want to get less heat, go with a true external.

In that case, which external pump would you recommend? External would be a pain because of space limitations.....

The AGA (all glass aquarium) overflows handle 600 gph each. There are 2.

Consider the Eheim 1260 (635gph and 65w) less heat and enough flow for the megaflow 600g gph which is the recommend max:"i think" did not check, and you already have two very good Tunze 6000 for flow. I am going with Eheim 1250 on my new 90g after researching here on RC i should be ok with the 28w 317gph Eheim 1250. I don't want extra heat and want a quiet megaflow with mod. One person posted he is using the 1250 on a 125g tank, i guest is that pushing the low end side because it may effect the skimming action on the surface. please keep us posted which ever you go with and if you find any place that has them on sale. Thanks,

Rich, I'm gonna go out on a limb here using info I recieved in my"pin, needle, and meshwheel" thread.
Iwas provided a link to some info hanmeister posted on the designed efficiency of pumps. I'm not even going to try to quote what was said but from what I gathered not all pumps of a given wattage will put out the same amount of heat, On a better more efficient design pump the energy is transfered into the working operation of the pump and on a cheaper designed pump of the same wattage some of that energy is wasted and directly contributes to heat.
After saying that, I use a mag 18 on my 210 and plan on changing to two Ehiems, 1/1260 and1/1262. Should be the same power consumption, some more flow and a built in redundancy.
At least thats the plan.

I use the Eheim 1262 and get 540 gph on it. Realize it's T-ed off and has a 5' height climb to the return lines. I'm happy with it, never a problem but I've only had it for 3 months. I don't know about the heat though, haven't tried to measure that.
