Actually, there are many different kinds and colors of chromis. I just saw some at Total Tropical in upland and wanted to get them but didn't. I belive they are indio chromis. Dark blue/teal with yellow tails. Cool little suckers. :smokin:

1. Blackmouth Bicolor Chromis
2. Blue Reef Chromis

5. Orange Line Chromis
6. Limbaughi Chromis
7. Black Bar Chromis

For fish retailers, often Chromis = Damsel and vice versa.

There are 85 Chromis spp. fish including marine, brackish and freshwater fish -- none of which appear to be illegal to catch, but many of which are not suitable for aquariums or just kind of ugly.

There are another 125-ish that have been reclassified away from Chromis spp. ... Some of which make mighty good eating (tilapia). Also 2 Acanthochromis spp. Neoglyphidodon spp. are usually labeled "damsels."

6-7 whatever I dont remember everything I read.

Dope LiveAquaria is teh way to go if those are any that interest u unless ur good friends with a LFS.

Nope, some *used* to be classified as Chromis spp. They are now classified as Tilapia spp., Oreochromis spp., Sarotherodon spp. and Alcolapia spp.

And no, I don't know this stuff off the top of my head. www.fishbase.org is an awesome resource for fish info... slow sometimes, but worth it. Especially as an antidote to the garbage on most vendor web sites.
