Looking for recommendations for a pump

I have 50 gallon reef tank with a 20 gallon sump. I just put in a Gen-X PCX-40 pump in it which can go up to 1190 GPH. It is thottled back to make it more controlable. However, it is pretty loud.

Does anybody any recommendations for which pump i should get and how many GPH it should be?

Thanks,

P.S. If you have one for sale, let me know.

if you want something quiet, go with submersible. usually for a 50 gallon, most people use something around 700 gph like a mag 7 but it largely depends on the amount of powerheads in the tank as well if your drain can handle a larger pump.

the 1262 would be overkill for a tank that size. A 1260 might be a little too strong too. You don't want that high of a turnover in your sump, otherwise the water is passing the skimmer to quickly to do anything.

good point Yinger...i actually only have a eheim 1250 on my 90g and doing about 250gph. My mistake...i was thinking closed loop when i replied before :)

another good point, are you doing closed loop? If so, the 1262 would be good. Otherwise I'd saying the 1250. Marinedepot has them for 69.99 i believe.

I hate to ask, but what is a closed loop?

haha, a 1250 will be your best pump then. :)
