looking for sand

hello, guys I'm looking for new sand, the one I used to have was the "Fiji pink" but it get blow easy, I want something that doesn't get blow by my power head

Caribsea special grade like thegrun mentioned is probably the most popular but I like tropic edens line of sands. Tropic Eden reeflakes is what I have in my 150 , it is a larger grain sand. I have tropic Eden miniflakes in my 40 breeder which is more comparable to the Fiji pink as far as grain sizes. I have a ton of flow in both tanks & the sand stays put. I like the look of a finer grade sand so my favorite for looks is the miniflakes but if u plan on having a bunch of flow u may want to step up a grain size to eighther the mesoflakes or reeflakes.

I second this comment, although in my new tank I did use CaribSea Special Grade Reef Sand due to tropic being out of stock. The Tropic was a little larger grain size but they are close.

I used direct ocean mix and it also has a good mix of some shells and finer grade

I sometimes had the same issue as well. I was able to stop the powerhead from blowing the Fiji Pink sand by placing some live rock with some coral that like a lot of flow in front to channel the waterflow away from the sand bed.

Petco also has caribsea special grade on its site (but it only says caribsea aragonite, doesn't say the grain size). I got it during their 30% off sale and it was about $0.60 per pound.

I know this is an older post but I too purchased some of this at the 30% off sale price recently. I did even contact them to see what grade it was since they don't list anything on the package or the website. According to the email this is what was said about the grade:

"Hi Travis that is a slightly different grade than our standard Aragonites on our website, it runs about a half a millimeter to 2 mm in diameter which is roughly like mixing the aragamax select with special grade reef sand and it's a very useful gradation and very pretty, perfect for just about any marine or reef tank!"

Still not a bad deal for the price. I can't find the special grade anywhere local. Maybe I am just not looking in the right places though, most everyone local sales live sand.
