Looking for some cleaner shrimp

Does anyone have any cleaner shrimp that they would like to get rid of or sell? These are hard to find lately. I'd like to get 1 or 2.

Yeh, the cleaner shrimp are harder to find now a days because the Oceans keep getting dirtier and dirtier. You can usually only find dirty shrimp now a days.

-Really, I doubt anyone will have any local they will want to part with. You may want to check on some online sources. I may be in on a few clean-up crew critters if anyone wants to innitiate a group buy again.

Why are you thinking there is a cleaner shrimp shortage? I have seen no shortage in anything of late. Just look around you can find them.

OMG PEOPLE! I see we havent learned our lesson from last time. Group buys only hurt the group as a whole in my opinion. Just because you can get them cheeper from an online store doesnt mean theat they are healthy. They often have lax quality controls, unlike your LFS and you stand a decent risk of bringing pathogens into your system, especially if the shrimp are OC. SO when your tanks are whiped out, dont come whining on the boards because your the idoits. Still, isnt this club all about promoting SMART reefkeeping, and SUPPORTING LFS's? An INTERNET STORE ISNT LOCAL, and it really doesnt help the community. UGH. I swear, I really thought you lot were more inteligent than this. Jesus, guys. I leave the threads for a few months, and it all goes to pot. Lets say that these shrimp are in some way, unhealthy, and they spread a pathogen onto your corals, and you propagate said coral. You sell the coral, and the pathogen at the next swap. The pathogen is distrubuted with the coral into other systems, repete process. Pretty soon the whole club is infected, and people are ****ed off, all because of a bunch of idoits looking for a readily avalable product, for a cheeper price. Idoits.

Hey Salty I think you need to chill out. I am sure the LFS gets the same product as the online retailers do. They have to come from a wholesaler in LA or other area on the coast. I am sure if your coral has a "pathogen" you would notice. I guess RC is full of idiots because I'm sure there are alot of people who have ordered livestock through hmmmm let's see Marine Depot, Premium Aquatics, Phishybusiness etc... I didnt know this club was about promoting LFS but more about discussing reefkeeping. I am all for buying locally but if they don't have what I want or ever get in what I want I will order it online. This is a Hobby so if you want to get something for your hobby and it is cheaper online why not get it for a better price?

Didn't mean to start a war, I was just looking for some shrimp. But I'll do whatever to get the best deal. Where have you guys done GB's before? If we do this I could sure use some big hermits too.

Wow, the definition of irony....... A 16 year old pimpled face boy calling several working professionals an idiot - and spelling it wrong.......not to mention leaving an "L" out of intelligent.

Can someone put parental controls on that PC?

That is some funny stuff...... anyway I am in on a group order as well if anyone is starting one up.

I did not see cleaner shrimp on the Reeftopia site.

One past lesson learned - better to go with a more reputable source as opposed to just finding the best price. Any of the RC sponsers are usually good for fear of being flamed.

Reeftopia is a local collecter in the keys so they won't have cleaner shrimp. However or last group buy through them was wonderful. You can usually get cleaners for about $15 dollars online. That's a pretty good deal.

Not promoting. Supporting. There is a diffrence.
I didnt say you couldnt buy online. Im just saying that if a product is readily avaliable at a LFS you should buy it from an LFS. You would know the quality of the product and it would be a benifit to LFS who may later put up prizes for donations, and if the club ever gets to this point, funding for project such as the Katrina marine thing that we did awhile back. It would be in the best intrest for everyone in the hobby in that area, and isnt that what the club is all about? Supporting people new to the hobby, and supporting EVERYONE involved. LFS are very involved in the hobby, as thats where you get most of your supplies. Think before you act, as wise mothers around America have said countless times.

With that said SBG, is it even possible to do a GB through a LFS? I mean, if we all put in an order for a specific critter, like the CS then maybe we can get a discount for ordering bulk. I've never done one of these GB's, so I dunno how they work. Just an idea that would support both sides.

Sorry about that. The thread was specifically about cleaner shrimps and i thought tank cleaners... I guess with some of the other posting on this thread my mind was wandering. Reeftopia is great for snails/hermits/crabs though.

The only online place i have ordered cleaner shrimp from is liveaquaria. I was happy with the order but dont know if they are the best avenue.

It's certainly possible to do a group buy from a lfs. It was suggested by a couple of our lfs on the board last year for various things and Jim & I talked about it privately too. The big problem now is if any lfs offered to work with us it might be viewed as "commercial" by the mods. I'd imagine RC could give us some guidelines to go by if the offers are still good and anyone's interested.

Salty before your next tirade about how we're all idiots you might want to get some facts about those exotic pathogens cleaner shrimp carry  and how the industry works at the wholesale level. Might make your ravings a little more believable and intelligent. ;) then again probably not.

Matt that's the first sign of old age

I think that this is why it was suggested that we have another forum devoted to the club for postings, away from RC. Still use this one but have the other one as well.
