Looking for some cleaner shrimp

Alot of the other clubs have a seperate site. We could use the RC boards to attract people to the club because it is high traffic board.

With that said SBG, is it even possible to do a GB through a LFS? I mean, if we all put in an order for a specific critter, like the CS then maybe we can get a discount for ordering bulk. I've never done one of these GB's, so I dunno how they work. Just an idea that would support both sides.
If the LFS was willing, I dont see why they wouldnt allow a group buy through themselves. It doesnt hurt to ask.

DUDE. I NEVER SAID THEY CARRIED EXOTIC PATHOGENS. SHEESH. I said that, in theory, there was a possibility.

Yeh, I have a way of turning easy going threads into a free for all. I guess it comes naturally for me. I just like chaos. I guess that is why I am Middle School teacher.

Anyway, I don't know where SALTY Beginers believes shrimp come from but I will assist him in buying a clue. The clue is they come from the Ocean. Oh and BTW, that is where they all come from. The ones they sell at the LFS and the ones that are sold through Wholesalers. Oh and guess what, the LFS have to get their livestock from somewhere, which is usually a wholesaler. I am sorry, most of the ornamental fish and many inverts in our tank cannot be readily aquacultured at this point so there is always a risk of disease but that is just part of the hobby.

I did not suggest a GB to try to cut out LFS. If they have competitive prices and can get us the items we are looking for, I am all for buying local. If everyone is so afraid of the RC Terms of Agreement about discussing GB's on this forum, we should start a small forum on another site so they can be discussed. If someone (not Me) who wants to head up a GB, the LFS can send a PM to the person who will be in charge of the GB so they can know what the price is; the local stores have to offer.

Myself, I am interested in getting a few cleaning crew items that I have been having some difficulty finding here locally. If we can find a LFS to order some cleaner shrimp and clean up crews, I would be happy to buy from them. If they can not get what we want we will just have to look elsewhere.

I want some more cerith snails, some algae grazers, maybe some cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp. I really would like to find some reproducing, algae eating snails if anyone knows of any let me know. I am growing tired of buying new algae eaters every couple years. This is why I like ceriths, they are not much on eating algae but they do reproduce in the tank sometimes. Oh, and BTW, I am not going to pay any LFS $2.25 a piece for ceriths when I can get them for $.25 online. This is why we sometimes need to organize GB's because it also helps to keep the market competitive.

I have some of the stombetellas or whatever they are called and they eat some algae and reproduce but they just are not enough to keep up with my tank.

I also don't know why it seems people here are so hesitant about discussing local stores, store sales, who has the best prices on certain items (LOCALLY), and things like GB's. I also read the Central Ohio Reef Association board - and these kinds of things are openly and frequently discussed! REALLY!!

It seems to be routine for someone on the CORA board to pose a statement like "store X is running a big sale that ends Friday" or a question like "who has the best price on IO buckets"? Everybody replys with "Aquarium Adventure is $x", "Phishy is $X", "the Jack's store on Main has a coupon right now with 20% off", etc, etc, etc. No big deal. No one being warned about violating the RC terms of service.

If we are discussing something that turns out to be forbidden, then let an official RC moderator just say so and delete that topic.

But I don't want this to be buried on this thread, this needs to be a whole 'nother topic! :-)

Okay (I'm gonna regret this) who have we ordered from in the past? I know the Florida critters order we did a while back didn't go so well (lots of empty shells) So who have we ordered from that has everything we are looking for in this GB?

(I guess what I'm saying here is that if we can pick a company I'll try and coordinate the order.)

I have to agree with Crabfan. I was going to point out the CORA club forum. They do this all the time. Geo is in their club and he is a moderator and says nothing about it. If someone does mess up I am sure first offense would be a warning. Let's stop walking on eggshells on this topic and be more open about discussing LFS and their prices and what stock they may have. I can see Ron being more concerned over this because he works for a LFS and if he were to say certain things it could be seen as a commercial post.

Im afraid it can and will likely cause serious problems guys. The CVRC will be harmed in ways you can not imagine if this happens.

No argument or worries sixliner I have consulted with a council member on this matter.
This is the decision.

You can post whatever you want as long as the Mods say it's OK. They have final say in all matters I have none.

Remember you do so under your own discretion and are responsible for the content that you choose to publish. I am not responsible for any content that you choose to post and will not be able to respond to your posts.

Im just making sure this wont come back on me the shop or the CVRCs reputation in any way guys, it's an awkward position and that's as far as I can comment on it.

Best of luck and have fun,
Ron
