Yeh, I have a way of turning easy going threads into a free for all. I guess it comes naturally for me. I just like chaos. I guess that is why I am Middle School teacher.
Anyway, I don't know where SALTY Beginers believes shrimp come from but I will assist him in buying a clue. The clue is they come from the Ocean. Oh and BTW, that is where they all come from. The ones they sell at the LFS and the ones that are sold through Wholesalers. Oh and guess what, the LFS have to get their livestock from somewhere, which is usually a wholesaler. I am sorry, most of the ornamental fish and many inverts in our tank cannot be readily aquacultured at this point so there is always a risk of disease but that is just part of the hobby.
I did not suggest a GB to try to cut out LFS. If they have competitive prices and can get us the items we are looking for, I am all for buying local. If everyone is so afraid of the RC Terms of Agreement about discussing GB's on this forum, we should start a small forum on another site so they can be discussed. If someone (not Me) who wants to head up a GB, the LFS can send a PM to the person who will be in charge of the GB so they can know what the price is; the local stores have to offer.
Myself, I am interested in getting a few cleaning crew items that I have been having some difficulty finding here locally. If we can find a LFS to order some cleaner shrimp and clean up crews, I would be happy to buy from them. If they can not get what we want we will just have to look elsewhere.
I want some more cerith snails, some algae grazers, maybe some cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp. I really would like to find some reproducing, algae eating snails if anyone knows of any let me know. I am growing tired of buying new algae eaters every couple years. This is why I like ceriths, they are not much on eating algae but they do reproduce in the tank sometimes. Oh, and BTW, I am not going to pay any LFS $2.25 a piece for ceriths when I can get them for $.25 online. This is why we sometimes need to organize GB's because it also helps to keep the market competitive.
I have some of the stombetellas or whatever they are called and they eat some algae and reproduce but they just are not enough to keep up with my tank.
