looking for some lighting answers

richie reef

OK I have been doing my homework on how to setup a reef tank. I have almost got everything together but, I am to the point to determine what light setup I should use. I have a 40gal tank with apporx 30 gal sump.

I have read articles about where the correct par levels will help with photosynthesis. I know that the par range is 400 to 700 nm. Know how does that relate to the temperature of the light?

I have also read a good thumbrule is 4-6 watt for a sps tank. If I want good results what should I do?

Where can I find information for bulb termperatures and how to choose a good bulb setup?

I have read the articles on this site where new comers are pointed to read the general topics but nothing on bulb temperature or correct combination of colors.

I have read that you want to cycle the temperature so that the light intensity is highest at mid-day and gradually increase and gradually decreases.

Also, some say that night bulbs can be used.

Just looking for some good information on these topics.

Thanks in advance.
