Looking for suggestions on good snorkeling locations

Hi, we are looking for a honeymoon destination where we can go snorkeling over reef straight off the shore. Roatan looked like a good destination for this but with all the government problems we decided to hold off on that. We are now looking into Hawaii but hard to tell if there reefs accessible right off shore. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are looking at first week of December and inside the US.

St. John was not only a great island to getaway too, the snorkeling around it was awesome.

Hawaii is good. Lot's of good snorkeling, though it's not big on coral, it's great for fish. US Virgin Islands, St. John in particular as Chris mentions. Also Puerto Rico has some good areas.

I just came back from Maui and Kauai. I was in the water 3-4 hours every day either diving or snorkeling. There are many good snorkeling locations on both islands.
