looking for sun coral or dendro

where can i find a nice sized colony of sun coral or dendro.

local stores only carry 1 head frag max

Watch online, Divers Den, Blue Zoo etc they get them in. You could also just ask an LFS you are friendly with to order some in. Mine ordered in a couple NPS corals just for me.

im lfs gets in dendros but they cut em up pretty quick. and get to much money for them to buy a whole colony

Search out other LFS, check online, post a want to buy in your local club site.

My lfs has a 6 polyp frag currently, I almost bought it but didn't feel like dealing with it.

Its tougher with the restrictions on aussie corals...you may need to get what you can and grow them. That being said, i've had luck with happycoral.com and lareefs.com

Hopefully you have a good local source as they seem to be the best source for larger colonies. I just picked up a 100+ head dendro and have 3 large sun coral colonies, one with over 100 heads and got them all from local reefers. You're correct; most retailers cut them down and sell them in one or two head frags. I could make a killing if I did that with the dendro but couldn't bear the thought of it! There aren't too many corals that can compare to a large sun coral colony, fully opened, as far as looks go

If you don't have a large, local community; I would search your closest, major, city on Craigslist. A pretty good source for them, imo

I just bought 3 colonies with 25+ heads from extremecorals.com earlier this week. Simply Stunning considering that most places chop them up to tiny pieces and sell them by the head. That would have cost me over $1500.

As of this evening Cherry & Will @ AquaSD both got a batch in. Believe Will is fragging out the colonies though so but you can buy by the head.

It has taken a couple of weeks but all the heads on the newest dendro colony are opening a good amount now. A long trip, no doubt, and a couple of weeks in the seller's tank were definitely stressful, I'm sure. Not all the way there yet but well on its way to a full recovery. Very happy I got to it before being fragged into 50 or 100 pieces! Camera phone pic but gives an idea of how nice it is
