well i have 96 watt coralife fixture on my 10 gallon.thats just about 10 watts per gall.would it be alright if got a clam??do they like the sand or rock better??what size should i get it ???

Clam will quickly outgrow that tank. Plus it will be hard to maintain calcium and alkalinity levels. Keeping clams under fluorescent lighting can be difficult. Just some thoughts.

why not? Cuz a squamosa/desera/gigas will outgrow your tank very quickly in the right conditions, and you do not have enough light for croceas and maximas.

i know that i have enough light for deresa and when it does grow bigger i know someone with a 180 wit metal halides who will take it.i drip kalk so my cal. and alk. levels are usually fine

I have a 10g,with a blue max. Here is a pic of it dieing under 96w pc,& a pic after i bought a MH light to save his life.

Under 96w PC after only 1 week.

i kept a crocea and a max in a ~3 gallon nano with 4x9w PCs for over a year with no problems. they grew and had great color. even better than the ones in my 2x250DE 50g.

even growing at full speed, it'll take plenty of time for any clam to outgrow a 10g (other than maybe a gigas). get the clam, enjoy it for a year or two or three, then move it to one of your bigger tanks. no big deal.
