Looking to order some uncured live rock

TampaBaySaltwater for the win. I bought some when Pat carried it back in the day, dunno if he still does. Their rock is covered in critters and cup corals and sponges and it's rockin. Highly suggested.

yes it is. But it's realm nice stuff. Reef life has some if you want to take a look at it. On the other hand it's very dence.

I know I'm being picky, but the TB live rock is maricultured, not aquacultured.
true that.

OK Alex,

This feels like Jeopardy. Ya know; I don't know the answer. What is maricultured?

idk, im not a fan, still very nice stuff, but the rocks dont have good shape, to much like boulders and there from a limestone quarry, so from what ive heard they break down somewhat over time, never experienced that, just heard from various sources.....

ima have to guess what is marine cultured ?

Maricultured means that it's cultured in the sea. I failed to mention that it was maricultured rather than aquacultured. My bad. Anyway, the company owns a huge series of plots of ocean off the beach on the west coast, and they dump tons and tons of rocks in those plots, leave the plots for a few years, then reclaim the rocks and sell them as liverock. They get a shisseload of life on them from TBS. I need some more rock too... Too poor to afford rock after my calcium reactor...

btw aquaculture means in a closed system, mariculture is in a natural body of water, probably specifically open.

just buy dead rock. If I had to do it all over again I would only buy like 2 pcs live and the rest dead. Its a waste of a lot of money in my opinion. $2 vs $4-6 makes a big difference on a couple of hundred lbs. in 6 months its all the same and less hitchhikers

for the most part i agree, but some things will thrive and i don't have much diversity in my tank at the moment. i practicly started over, so i have little life, i was able to keep barnicals alive, but this time i was going to put the rock in my fuge only, where no fish would be and modorate lighting. allows the critters a safe place to reproduce.

i got the rock today, its looks good, took a few shots, ill post them tomorrow. came with a lot o hitch hikers. got one medium sized clam, 2 or three starfish many snails, and crabs,

i havet a couple orange and red so tree sponges, are they low or high light animals?

the sponges will most likely not survive, keep a good eye on them, observe the tissue, if it starts to bleach or become transparent i would just take it out

Tampabay live rock, about $4.00 a pound not including shipping, he shipped it on saturady morning and i received it 4 hours later. rock looks better in person, i probably should have put it under the aquarium lighting, but i didn't want to photoshop the pics.
