I wrote this up for craigslist assuming the reader didn't know much about the hobby.
I am considering selling my 5 year old 58 gallon reef set up. This will have to be a plug and play transfer unless you are putting the livestock in another established tank. I will not part out or sell anything individually as my current set up has been working well for my ecosystem and I don't want to alter anything. If you are a beginner and thinking about entering the hobby, this can be a good way for you to start, since you would be getting an already stable, functioning reef. I will gladly pass knowledge along to anyone interested. I will list below everything this will include as best I can. I'm firm at 600 considering the rock alone would go for over 300.
-58 Gallon Oceanic Aquarium 36"x 18"x 21"
-"Stand" - A chest of 2 drawers that I keep supplies in. It is made of wood and stands about 2 feet off the ground. Its nice and heavy + Durable.
-65ish Lbs of Live Rock. 45 Pounds of it were from Kaeleni, where I believe they have halted exportation of live rock at present unless now its called Timora Sea? 15 Lbs of Figi and one Caribbean rock that's about 8 Lbs and a nice 16" Piece of Tonga Branch.
- 3 Hydor Koralia power heads. 850 GPH 1 year old
- 4x39 Watt Nova Extreme T-5HO fixture. About a year old.
- Stealth Heater about 2 years old
-Aqua-C Remora Hang on back skimmer with Maxi Jet 1200 Pump.
-Fish = A Niger Trigger that is about 3" he will need to be moved when he gets bigger, a Bi Color Blenny and a Bi Color Pseudochromis. Ive had the pseudo from the start and the Blenny for 3 yrs. The trigger ive had for about 6 months and it has been reef-friendly so far.
-2 Anemones. One is a 4" Rock Anemone and the other is a 6" Condy. There are a few "pest" anemones called Aiptasia. I have 3 good sized ones that have been there for years and not caused any problems. You can eradicate them if you want to but I am more of a live and let live type if they arent bothering anything.
- Corals- Lots of purple mushrooms are scattered and lots of toadstools that have all been dropped from the main toadstool which is 6 inches when fully opened. There are about 40 bright orange zoanthids on a nice piece of rock. 35 heads of frogspawn that are in 3 main colonies but they all were one once. 1 2" head of Hammer coral that I have had for 3 years but cant get it to grow much. It has split into 3 heads and that's about it. 3" piece of neon green hydnophora. 2 main 4" Kenya Trees with a few random smaller ones around. I think thats all thats worth mentioning.
- Some various snails and hermits. Possibly some emerald crabs and peppermint shrimp but its been a while so I dont know.
- A Brittle Starfish that I have never seen in the hobby or heard of anyone else with one. It is a Ophiomastix variabilis that I have had for 4 years.
-Refractometer, a half bucket of reef crystals salt and 4 empty buckets, plus an old test kit and a mag float.
Final note- In reef aquaria, its a fight to control algae and different people have different methods of keeping it in check. I let grape calpuera grow from the piece of carribean rock and I harvest what the blenny doesnt eat once every 2 weeks. On this rock I let whatever algae that comes up live and this works for me by keeping it isolated to one part of the tank. Many people have a connected tank called a refugium for this purpose but I dont have one so I do this. The algae on that rock and the skimmer do a pretty good job at eating up all the nutrients that may cause an algae bloom.
