I just got world last night that we're coming come!
Pilot and navigators go through their training in the AF w/o knowing which airplane they're getting when they earn their wings. We have what is called a drop night where they call us up and surprise us with the jet we'll be flying for the rest of our careers. A few weeks before we fill out a 'dream sheet' with the aircraft we want in order of preference and our flight commanders select them for us based on class ranking and what's available at the time.
My number one choice was AWACS to Tinker and I got it! Jennifer and I will be headed back to OKC sometime in the near future. I still have 2 weeks of class, so I expect to get orders with leave dates sometime after that. I bet I'll be home around Xmas though.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share the good news. I didn't think it would actually happen when I left to come down here 2 years ago, but I ended up ranking #3 out of 22 and our commanders worked get an AWACS for me. A little hard work pays off sometimes! Our class got a great drop over all. Here's the list of what everyone got and where they're going. I could have had my pick of any of them, but boring old OKC is where I wanted to be. Besides, I'll get to see the world during deployments and won't have to drag the family through it.
