Here is is when first bought 10/15/05:

Here is is in late November 2005, a couple of weeks after we cleared out a "bad" hitchiker crab that had been eating the coral down to the "bone" (you can already see growth in teh cut sections). We have to amputate several heavily damaged branches. Amazing what one little crab can do in such a short span of time :

Awesome Color. Actually your first photo was the picture I saw that made me want that coral.

I see you have it on the bottom of your tank. Have you ever had it higher in the tank? Did the colors come out more?

The frags in the prop tank are much closer to the light (shallow propr tank) and they are a deep/dark teal throughout. Very little evidence of the blue base color. I will try to get a picture snapped later on today for you.

Sent you a PM about the frags :)

closer to 4 months, from the beginning of Oct to the end of Jan, but yea, it grew fast. Then again we have always had very good growth success with our corals. We feed heavily/daily, using a DIY coral recipe fashioned after Eric B's Coral Chow and skim heavily for a low nutrient environment.

edit: Oh, and all lights, over main tank and prop tank, are 10K AB DEs, the main tank has PC actinic supplementation.. but that is for us, not really for the corals :). We have seen great growth since swithcing from 14k and 20k bulbs and actually like the coral coloration alot better too (but that is just a personal preferrence :D)

You are very lucky to live in CA.
Or I would be there right now, frag cutters in hand. :D

I love A. loisettea!

It is the canary of my system....it's the first the color up and the first to go south when something is wrong! Yeah, it is a fast grower!

Mine is all sky blue under CVR 10k.

I picked up a frag of that a couple of weeks ago, I love the color. I have mine high in the tank right now and it's getting a greenish tint to it, would I be better off moving it lower?

as I noted, the higher up I put it the more teal it becomes. If you prefer more blue than green, then drop it down a bit :)

cool, that's good to know. I'll try moving it tomorrow, thanks

I will definitely try to get pictures of the frags in the prop tank so you can see the color it will turn when blasted by light :).

Richard - It's the first coral in view. It has just started to come back from decalification and lightening, so it still looks a little "thin". Tons of new growth tips.....

I should also add that when I got it, it was the color of a Hersey bar.

ok, here are some shots from our propr tank of the frags from this colony.

A top angle shot :

Cropped, to show which ones I am referring to, since they are alot darker than the main colony (I am assuming due to being alot closer to the lights).

Here are a side angle shot to try to give more depth to the view.

Sean,

Were you closer I would be more than happy to help you out with some frags. Your many posts, research, unabridged sharing of experiences and just general knowledge exchange is what RC is all about. I can honestly say that your information has helped me before, during and after numerous tank related incidents. If you are ever out this way, you will have to look us up :).

wow nice prop tank!

Thanks. It is a custom tank that we built last year. Here is a "full tank" shot taken around October 2005.

PropTank003.jpg

We built is using plans from garf : http://www.garf.org/tank/buildtank.asp

Those plans, a quick trip to the local Tap Plastics with the parts list, some basic plumbing and about an hours worth of work and the prop tank was born :). We keep softies and LPS down on the left side (like acans, etc) that don't like the harsh lights. So far it has worked out great. It shares the sump with our main tank, but has it's own return pump from the sump/refugium.
