losing color

i have a bta that is losing it's color (orange tips.) i feed it 3-4 times per week (mysis and krill.) water parameters are as follows...

mg 1400
ca 440
alk 9.1
nitrates <5


i am using led lights and they are not too bright. i do have 1 clown fish in there, but he has 5 other btas he can host in. i have heard color loss is due to 'stress' but was curious if anyone has pin-pointed specific causes. thanks.

Ive found that without good water movement, nems will generally fade. I know others have had success with less, but for mine, water movement and flow has been a godsend for my nems.

Off topic; apparently you should only feed once per week, thats all Ive been hearing. Doubt that has anything to do with the colour tho

i'll try adding another powerhead to get more flow. some of my brightly colored orange ones have faded a lot. they are still orange under the blue lights, however.

Check your strontium.

i have dialed the lights back some. will buy a test kit for strontium. i use red sea coral pro, so i didn't think i would have to test for elements other than the usual.

i really think its probably intensity of the LEDS...my mag sits on the very top of the water column,,, literally,, i moved the light that was above the nem over about 8 inches to put in another LD fixture that had 90 degree optics which gave me about 2-300 more par right under the water and it bleached the top portion of the nem..

I don't think it is from bright life's btas love bright lites and would move and hide if they were to bright.for most large nemesis if the light doesn't burn them they are fine.it must be something else maybe not enough lite.I don't use led so I cant tell u about them but they are new to the hobby and maybe they don't like it.I the sun lite I have seen on wild btw at top of reef only a couple feet under the water were in such Brits lite it soul burn u in minutes. Check everything b4 u dim the lites unless u just changed them and shockedem.go I hope u don't lose them.I have 200 par onmy sandbed he would move if to bright.mysis and krill are good enough to be the only thing you feed them get good meaty goods and soak them in selcon.and u are feeding way go much they must digest the food and excrete it b4 u feed again.they get gut rot and die fast that wayni had a clown overfeeding and kill my favorite rbta.he pucker most of it up but that isnot good to there fragile system.could it be chemical warfare?any other nems or corals in the tank? I hope we all can help u save them lice would also help us

your post isnt always true its more of an opinion and your experience. MAGS( although not BTA's) LOVE bright light,however mine sat under less than 200 par for almost a year before it moved and did amazing, Also now that my mag moved to the very top of my tank and got bleached on the top only by how strong it was it didnt move and continues to stay there and get used to the lights. Point being not all nems are the same , they all act very different in our systems. Also there are numerous threads how nems do just fine, if not better under LED's so you can rule a bad light source out..

My RBTA's bleached when I switched from MH to LED, had to dial them back quite a bit, color starting to come back now.
