losing my table.......

Its been like a month since i got a huge table coral from Allen and the polyps haven't ever really came out on it, now it is starting to RTN, i am bumming cause i really like this piece. I really hope it doesn't die. I guess if it continues i will frag off as much as i can and hope for the best. Everything else is doing great it's just the one piece, its getting pretty good flow and is towards the bottom of the tank, i am wondering if it has to do with my high Alk.

Just did some reading and it appears tables are very sensitive to sudden changes in Alk, i have be tweaking my CA reactor somewhat, i guess that could be the culprit.

Its very possible, sudden changes of any kind can cause problems. About all you can do at this point is keep everything as stable as possible and keep good flow on it. Id also be taking some frags now, before its to late.

Allen, it seems to have started from the base and is working its way out, i am thinking about breaking the whole base off but am wondering if that would just cause more stress??

That doesnt sound good, I would take as many frags as you can. Stay back at least an inch from the recession and make sure to glue the frags and cover the cut completely. I dont think youll be able to save the colony, when they start going from the center its hard to impossible to stop.

Man that sucks, looks like i need to make a trip to hobby lobby and stock up on glue. I think the problem is i have been dosing to much. I have been trying to raise Mg and CA over the last couple weeks and maybe have been hitting it to hard. Also i have been having issues with my RODI not working as well as it should due to clogged filters, so i am sure between all of those factors i caused some pretty wicked stress. Well at least i finally got my parameters in check finally.

How long have you had that colony anyway allen? How big was it when you got it?

Yeah, that does sound like a lot. I had it for over 3 years, it was about a third that size.

I'm gonna watch it for another day or 2, if it keeps RTN'ing i might take you up on that. I am done dosing Mg and CA for awhile so maybe ill get lucky and it will be OK. Doubt it but we'll see.

Well, looks like it's time to bust this thing up, it is losing more tissue and it doesn't appear to be slowing down.

I'm going to frag it up in atleast 2-3 pieces and seal all the ends with glue, hopefully that will take care of it.

Super glue at the line of demarcation has ALWAYS worked for me. Don't waste your time breaking it up.

Just got done gluing the crap out of it, i hope it works! If not its time to frag it up.

I would probably take a couple of frags off it and put it out of bright light in the tank while you wait.

Billy, thanks for advice, i turned the lights off early, think it would help to leave the light on that side of the tank off for a couple days?

I know Allen was cranking light on the corals, you could tell by his awesome colors and growth.

I wouldn't back it off too much or for too long. I would probably pull a couple frags and take it easy on them for awhile light wise to see what goes on with the rest of the coral.

I'm running 3 400's on my 125 so lights not a problem, but i will def. pull some frags though. It's kind of weird, everything else looks normal, im hoping it will stay that way.

I agree with Billy on this, take a couple frags and keep them out of bright light. Dont mess with the rest of your tank, you may just cause more problems.

That's a bummer man. It used to be such a nice colony. I'm sure Allen sold enough frags of it that someone could give you a piece of theirs when it grows out.
