loss of color w/yuma?

I recently purchased a red yuma. The picture of it online was a deep red. However, when I received it (after acclimating it), it was bright orange in my tank.

Is the color change due to shipping stress, or the store having the yuma under different lights than mine, or maybe the real color is bright orange? Got it in on friday (5/11), acclimated, mouth is closed/tight, looks healthy.

I have it in the corner of my tank, low flow, 24" from my 150W, 20k MH. It's partially shaded.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe a picture will help. And post the picture of what the store had on their site. Sometimes, it is the lighting, sometimes it is the camera.

Yumas are crazy sometimes, they go through all kinds of morphs. But if it is bright bright orange...then it might settle to red after it settles in depending if it was red in the first place. If it is a dull orange, then you might want to call the store and ask for a refund. I have also seen light pinks turn into red as well.

I think the first question to ask the store is what kind of lighting used in their picture.

Thanks Jimbo. I'm working on getting the photos. Don't have any to upload yet. Do you know how long it takes to potentially change color?
Thanks

Without a picture it is hard to tell, sometimes they are slightly bleached and expel their zoo, which causes some color loss. Other times, they get bleached because of the lighting change or shipping stress.

But after they get settled down, they will regain their zoo and the color will show up. And a lot of retailers like to actinic the crap out of their tanks for the color to pop, and even a few will photoshop it to make it sell. So it is hard to tell by just written description.

Thanks Jimbo; I'll post pics tonight. Hopefully, it will color back up. It's difficult to tell if the yuma was getting blasted by actinics in the original pic.

Okay, here are some pics:

This is the one from the store. Sorry, not the best of pics. Doesn't look like it's blasted w/actinics:

You can see in the corner of this pic, is the same yuma. I don't think someone would photoshop a yuma in the corner of the pic:

Here's the yuma on Saturday (1 day in my tank):

I think it's just shipping stress. Hoping the color will come back soon. Thanks in advance for any info.

nice yuma. The first two pics are top down view while yours apears to be sideways, which may not be the true reason they are different color, but does make alittle difference. Also doesnt look like your not using custom white balance.
not saying these guys did it, but if I remember correctly, there was an (different) online vendor that admited to messing with the saturation and lighting (as if it would not change the color intensity of a coral)...
The top pic looks to me like cherry/magenta red, while your pic looks salmon pink.

It's pink. Lucky dog! A little bleached but it will recover.

Low light and low flow for the time being.

sounds good. It has a salmon/peach/orange color to it. Definitely not the red in the picture. Unfortunately, I just have a point and shoot camera and my camera skills aren't too good yet. Next week, my club is sponsoring a photography class, so hopefully my photography skills will improve.

If the yuma's red color comes out, I'll try to take some more photos for all of you.

Thanks for the help!

I have seen those variety. It is not going to be totally pink, it will have a rim of gray and a pink color. The reds are completely red, even the edges. But do let us know how it goes. It is a gorgeous ricordia. I wish I had bought one similar to it at a LFS, but I didn't have the money that day and it was gone when I went in the next time.
