I have worked at two petcos and three LFS stores and I would say it would have to be evaluated on an individual basis. I was the Aquatic Specialst at both Petcos and at one my manager let me run the systems the way I wanted to and order the fish I thought we could keep alive and sell. We had a 18-22 % loss there, down fro 40% when I started. The second store I transfered to required that I follow all pollicies and I had no control over orders and we had a 36-62% loss rate which was not a bad thing to the manager because it was "normal" for that store. Two of the three LFS stores I worked at had a 16-25% fresh loss and a 18-30% salt loss depending on vendors and which systems the fish were in. That being said the equipment was much better and being a small company or individually owned buisiness sure gives you the incentive to keep fish alive.
