losses

yesterday was day 9 I've had 60 larva this whole time last night I lost 17. I don't no why. all my parameters are the same as they have been. is it normal to have losses like that during metamorphism. or could I have over feed them and would that cause them to die with in 5 min. or when I put the plankton collector in there to strain some food out could I have killed that many by shock in a few mins? or maybe the dead ones were under the heater and when I stuck the plankton collector in there I made the current put the dead ones out where I could see them>

not that I have all that much experience with raising larvae successfully, but even .25 ppm can be problematic for some fish...it would stand to reason that "less than 1 ppm" is too much wiggle room...I'd rather see "undetectable" levels of ammonia in any given situation. Granted, maybe "less than 1 ppm" is the same as "0 ppm"?

can you make 2 much air and the turbulence kill them. I have them in 5 gallons of water should I add more water also and if so how slow would I have to add it?

at day 9 they can tollerate air bubbles fine. And some slight current, too. Add water at a drip or dribble. At this stage, you can bring the volume up to the top of the tank. You are not feeding rotifers to the tank anymore, right? At this stage you should feed the fish, and not worry about rotifer density. NHBS and flake or Otohime A and rots if they need some.

siphon the bottom at least once a day, preferably an hour after feeding flake. Sponge filter is an option at this point. Or if you have a system for ammonia removal, you can slowly bring them on.

thanks . the sponge filter will be ok tonight? its been it the sump of the parent tank for 1 1/2 months is there anything i need to do to it before i put it in there?

im so stupid its day 12 now and I fell asleep last night and left the lights on. I only had 22 left when I got up they were all still alive. so I of course I cut the lights off for 8 hrs when I cut them back on 11 were dead. im down to 11 on day 12.

odd. I am surprised that happened. Did you feed them after they were up all night?

Time to get a light timer....

Don't plug your heater into it. That was my dumb mistake. We all live and learn.

The great thing about clownfish is they continue to spawn no matter how dumb we are!

no i didnt feed them after they were up all night.

You coulda/shoulda fed 'em. As long as they're awake they'll eat. I've heard tell of some people running 24hrs till meta. Sounds crazy to me, but there are people doing it.
My partner is always hammering me that if you learned something from their deaths, then it's not in vain. Still sucks though.
