Lost 2 clams today - thoughts on why they went?

I lost both my clams this morning - my first casualties. Not a good feeling.

I'm curious to hear what y'all think was the cause. I don't see any signs of parasites/snails or such. No holes on the shell nor any signs of distress on their mantles leading up to their deaths. Two days ago, my crocea just fell off his rock leaving his threads behind. He remained mostly closed from that point forward. My maxima looked fine as of last night. This morning, I found my cleaner shrimp picking away at the mantle and shoo'd him away. I examined both of them in a bowl and neither one of them were responding. I'm assuming this means that they're dead.

One major change that occurred was the addition of 40lbs of cured live rock to a 65g tank containing 35lbs of established rock. The rocks were added on Sunday and I used over 3/4 stick of epoxy putty for the structure. The skimmer went on overdrive for 4 days after that. I immediately started running polyfilter and carbon in a power filter and did a 10% water change.

Could it be the epoxy? The rapid addition of 40lbs of rock? All the rock was originally from an established tank and has been sitting in an unlit tank with plenty of circulation for over 4 months.

Needless to say, clams won't be on my purchase list for a while. Sorry for the long post. Just hoping that someone has the expertise to make an immediate diagnosis. FYI, I've had the maxima for over 5 months and the crocea for about 1 month.

My params:
ph 8.2
calc 395
alk 10.9
mag 1230
ammonia 0
nitrates 2.5

i saw you post this on another board but you didn't really ask a question so i didn't respond. i would say yes the epoxy did it. using a small amount usual wont harm anything but 3/4 of a stick in a 65g, not a good idea.

looking at what you posted again. why do you have an Nh3(ammonia) of 2.5? that is way toxic and you need to fix that or more things will die.

i meant to write no3 for nitrates. ammonia (nh4) tested at 0.

from the two little fishies site, "Non-toxic to fish, plants & small animals". i missed the footnote that says "in small quantities". :/

nitrates 2.5 is pretty high.
I woud have to say it was partly responsible if not soley responsible
