Lost a clownfish today

My female clown jumped out of the tank last night and I found her on the floor this morning.

I have a biocube 29 that I bought from some one about 3 weeks ago. I have been using the lid and stock lights up until 3 days ago. I removed the lid and made a mount for the upgraded lights that the previous owner had been using for about a year. Now I guess I'm going to have to make a screen/lid so I don't lose any other fish.

The remaining male clown seems a little lost so I'm going to look to find another clown for the tank. Have a few questions about adding a new fish?

1) should I get 1 more fish and add it to the tank with the existing clown? Or should I get a pair of clowns and trade in the one I have?

2) if I keep the one I have and add another is there any type of clown I should look for over another type?

3) I don't have access to a QT tank so how should I go about adding new fish? And I will prob have to purchase from online so is there any sited that would be recommended? The closest LFS that I would trust is over 2hrs away and not sure when I could get there.

4) what are the step to acclimate the new fish to the tank?

Thanks in advance for any help and if there's anything I'm missing please let me know.

It's pretty rare for most clowns to jump. You might want to lower your water level a little bit to make it harder to get out. I keep my water about an inch lower then the rim.

1 - up to you which way you go buying a pair online doesn't garentee they are actually a pair.

2 - yes you need/should get the same type of clown most clowns won't accept other types. Post a picture and we can tell you what type you have.

3 - I am going to get scolded for this but you are not REQUIRED to quarantee your fish. It is a best practice to ensure you don't get disease in your tank. Look up the practice of the Tank Transfer Method (ttm) on this site. It's easy to do and should be the very minimum you do as preventative actions. I literally use flower vases for small fish like clowns, they hold about a half gallon of water and I have plenty of them around the house so I can transfer the fish daily. Yes it is cramped and I am sure it stresses the fish but I don't have room for a QT let alone multiple tanks. Warning though due to the low volume of water your water temp could change quite a bit. My home is always 76 degrees so it's not much of an issue for me but if your home is colder or much hotter you may want to use something that can hold more water like a small cooler with a heater in it. Your just need at least two to do it right.

4 - if you do the TTM then aculmation will be part of the process and once complete you can just add your clown to the display tank. I mix new salt water and do a water change on my display tank. The water I take out of the display tank I use for TTM.

Flower vases are a bit small and all weird shaped also don't make it necessarily easy to hook up a filter.
Empty salt buckets or brand new bucket from the hardware store will do just fine for ttm . Black is good, white is fine just don't get a real stressful colors like orange [emoji16]

Good luck.
