so I have a 125 aggressive and a 20 long nano all hooked up into one sump. It has or had been up and running for about 8 months now and after noticing I had ich on my fish I put them into Q with copper for a month about and it went away... or so I thought.... when I moved them back into the tank they did fine and showed no ich. About 3 days ago I lost my indian trigger then the clowns in the nano and now my puffer. I think from what I can tell is due to velvet or atleast that is what it looks like.. My question is is how long do I have to let the tank sit till everything dies off velvet ich or whatever it is? or does anyone have any other ideas thanks

so thats 2 months with no fish, how about the scavengers(hermits, snail etc.)if you have them in the tank, would the ich parasites still stay on your tank,or everything must be out of the tank?

Invertebrates don't count. Marine ich and velvet both need a fish host to survive and would die off in the presence of only corals, shrimp, snails, etc.

Here is good reading on this stuff.

i was thinking, can you just make a fish only tank running on a hyposalanity all the time so just to keep the water safe from ich?
would this affect all you scavenger crew since they are invertibrates.Since study show that hyposalinity is not hard on the fish.well just my two cents.
