I am just curious if this is anything I did, or was it something else? Brief history:
I have had the fish for nearly six years. She has survived a move and two tank break-downs/set ups. Eating like a pig right up until this moment when I found her stuck on the vortech. I hand picked this fish when I worked at a LFS. I quarantined her there for over a month, feeding her pods and microfauna syphoned out of coral shipments mixed with frozen mysis. When I took her home she was eating EVERYTHING...flake, frozen...she would even shove tangs out of the way to get at nori!
for the last two years she has been in a 60ga cube reef tank. Her only tankmates are one 11yr old PJ Cardinal, green clown goby, red capped goby, yellow watchman goby and a pair of trimma gobies. Needless to say it's not a high stress tank!
For the last few weeks, despite her constant eating, I noticed she was getting thinner. You could really see the weight loss right behind her head. I have not added anything to this tank in over a year. I decided to let nature take its course and not rip the tank apart to try and get her, as I honestly don't think there was anything I could treat for.
Anyway, tank parameters are all pretty standard. No nitrites/nitrates/ammonia. pH at 8, alk at 11 temp around 78 degrees. I did my last water change a little over a week ago. All other corals and fish seems happy, healthy and active.
Anyway if anyone has any thoughts as to why she was losing weight, and why she may have died, please let me know! I just want to make sure it's nothing I was doing wrong! I think it was more just "her time" especially as I'm nearly 100% she was cyanide caught, and who the heck knows how old she was when I got her. I just feel 6 years isn't a whole lotta time, considering how I've had this silly cardinal for 11 years, and had a cinnamon clown for 13!
