Lost Petco Clown to "brook"

Well, I didnt do a QT when I got 2 clowns from Petco last friday. I noticed yesterday that one of them started to have the white film, thru research it seems like it was brook. He past this morning before I could treat him.

My question is, can I use my DT as my QT for the second clown I have, I have no other fish in there. Just 2 sexy shrimp, 1 peppermint shrimp, snails, and hermits.

You need a QT, I'll bet you can get one for less than the price of a decent fish. (Try craigslist , they have lots of used stuff, much of it from folks who didn't QT new fish.) Formalin is the only to cure brook and should be done in a QT. You could try formalin dips, but that requires netting the fish for every dip and then he goes back into water with active brooklynella stages. Brook is a very fast killer, you don't have much time. I can't remember the fallow period for brook elimination; but don't add new fish until you have researched it (someone will post here) and have a QT. IMO & IME: A QT/HT isn't just a nice thing to have----its an absolute necessity for long-term enjoyment of this great hobby.

I bought 2 clowns from petco knowing they would possibly have disease but I treated them and now they are in my DT loving life..

QT is very important no matter where you get your fish from!

It's not about where you get the fishes it's all about QT before placing them in DT. I was kinda like you when I started, refused to buy a HT/QT tank for 1 main reason of space and other cost. But trust me it will pay for it self just do it you gonna be happy guarantee.

Absolutely. With a proper quarantine protocol, you can buy from any fish vendor.

Very true. And, without a QT, fish from any vendor are not 100% safe. Even DD, IMO the best source of fish on the planet, strongly recommends
a QT for all of their fish. From my limited visits to PETCO, though, I think the over-all health of the fish leaves a lot to be desired. I saw some bacteria-type infections that I wouldn't want to have to try to cure-----nor should I be expected to.
