I have a big ball of cheoto. it is about 15"x15"x15". Is it a lot? It is in my 40 gal sump. The main tank is 120 gal. Is it ok or should I trim it? What happen if I keep a lot?
Thanks,
Kevin
The only bad part about that much Chaeto is the threat of some of it dying and decaying in your tank. You might want to check the underside or inside of the ball to make sure that it is green and healthy.
My experience with Chaeto is that if it gets overgrown it will push some up and out of the water where it dries and blocks light. I try to trim it so it doesn't cover the entire surface, and break it up into smaller clumps.
trim it, its better to give it room to grow. that way it will consume more.I have to trim mine about once a month, and it keeps growing. I notice when I neglect it, it doesnt grow as fast.
