my tank parameters have been acting weird for the past 6 months. well, i finally got them under control and my corals are starting to grow again and look spectacular but now i have a patch of cyano bacteria and some hair algae. why are these algaes coming up now and what can i do about it? the tank is about 2 years old now so it might be time to change gravel, so what should i do, change gravel, leave it bear bottom? please give me any experience or advice.

thanks,
seth

It will be easiest for someone to help you figure out what's going on if you can post your tank specs and water parameters. Has anything changed recently, such as adding more fish or equipment, using different foods, new lightbulbs, etc?

the only thing i have changed lately is my calcium and alkalinity levels. they were out of wack and i tried to fix them.
tank parameters:
calcium:700
kh:170
ph:8.3
salinity:1.025
temp:79

please help me!!

Your clcium and Alk are so far out of whack that I would question the test kits you're using. Can you post more info with regard to the type of test kits, skimmer, and bioload. How often do you feed, and what type of substrate. (You mentioned gravel..is it crushed coral?...What is the nitrate level?)
