Loud 6025's

I got a pair of 6025's. Both are a bit loud. It's a ratteling noise. There seems to be no mechanical problems. The shaft is firmly seated and the impeller seems nicely centered. I don't see any vibration of the unit itself.

I talked to Jeremy at CRA ( where I got them) about it and he said to contact you to possibly mail them to you.

I recall my 6080 was a bit noisy in the beginning, but it did quiet right down. I was wondering how long I should give these. It's been a few weeks now. They are not on a wavemaker or anything like that.

Thank's

Mike

Is it rattling only on start up? Do they spin the correct direction? I wouldn't expect any change after 3 weeks. Normally within 3 days any inital noise should be gone. I did recently get one back like you describe that the only issue was sand inside, it was stuck between the prop and shaft and took a while to get it all washed out. If you have fine sand and the shaft is fixed in place, this might be something to check.

No, it rattles all the time. It does spin in the right direction. When i first plugged it in , it started in the wrong direction, but quickly reset. I don't have any sand in the tank, and it's been doing this since day one. I'll take another look at it.

Tonight I unplugged them one at a time, and the noise is only coming from one of them. I was probably mistaken that they were both noisy.

Can you try swapping drive units (prop assembly)? Also check if the small disk (washer) is at the bottom of the shaft of the noisy one? If we can find the cause I can just send the necessary part.

I have your exact problem with my 6025 as well. It has this hum/rattle sound that you can hear 20 feet away from the tank. I put my ear on the tank and it is very loud inside the tank. I unplugged it because I could tell the fish didnt like it, they behaved abnormally. I have another 6025 in the tank as well, so I will try to switch out parts to see if that fixes anything.

Jonathan,

Such an extreme rattle might suggest the shaft came loose which is a bigger issue and we need to replace the pump. The shaft is supposed to be attached to the bottom of the pump well.

I did just check and the shaft is loose and explains the rattle. Comparing the two, it is easy to tell that that is the problem. What should I do next?

Roger, I noticed the noise again and checked the pump out. The shaft has now come apart from the assembly. The other one is still fine.

Other than this, I love these units.
