Low alk

Can low alk cause acros to have little strings come out of its tips? I realized my alk was real low when I got back from vacation a few days ago and a few acros look a little stringy and not as fully open as they normally are. The alk was like 5 dkh. I'm slowly bringing it back up its around 6 now but acros look the same. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I have a few acro's that do this consistanly,

whever i frag or damage the coral for a few days after it will extrude what looks almost like LPS tentacles every time i feed or at lights off.

I'm not sure if its a good or bad thing, but the acro's still grow and look the same. i'd be interested to see why they do it and what causes it.
