Low pH High dKH low CO2 High Ca

Well here is the problem, my pH is down to 7.86 right now, verified by my meter and two other test kits. My dKH is super high, but that is normal for my tank, no matter what I try it is always wicked hard in there. MY Ca is between 400-450ppm, and I don't see how CO2 can be an issue since I live in an old slanty shanty apartment that can barely keep the rain out let alone fresh air and I don't use any sort of reactor. I have read many of the forums that regard high pH, low pH, low/high dKH but nothing seems to pertain to my situation. My tank, other than the dKH is usually all in the green and very stable until just the past couple of days. I did just install a new MJ 1200 mod that is or I should say was stirring up a lot of the sand and I think that this might be the cause of the low pH. I have since adjusted the MJ so that it doesn't stir or disturb the sand but that was just about 6 hours ago and there has been no change in pH. I am wondering if the sand might have some sort of buffering affect on the pH? Kind of a long write up for that little question but some help with my tank chemistry would help a lot here because I am tearing my hair out.

What time did take this pH reading ? What are you using for Alk and Ca++ sup's ?

The last pH was 7.86 at 9:30. Right now its 7.83 at 10:15. I use kent or oceanblend calcium and oceanblend pH/Alk. Right now all of the display lights are off so I would expect a small pH drop. The refugium lights are on so I don't normally expect more than a 1.0 drop in pH until the main display lights start to kick on. The lights have only been off for 15 min and there is allready a .03 drop so if that trend continues there might be a big problem before morning.

We are at 7.75 at 8:30 this morning. I pulled out a couple gallons of water and set it outside with an air pump and stone. I have to go to school so I won't have any results until after I get home this afternoon. I don't think that that is the problem but at this point I will try anything. Wish me luck!

I have a pinpoint monitor hooked up to my reefkeeper2 and I used brand new pinpoint calibration solutions about 2 weeks ago. On top of that I use 2 other pH test kits to confirm the readingas and so far everything concurs with everything else. I know that my numbers are accurate as far as the pH is concerned. I'm at school and don't know what is going on witht the bucket that I set out with the air pump but I think that I am going to invest in some limewater at winndixie on my way home. If anything that should help me get it back to where it needs to be.

A couple of gallons may take too long to adequate aerate, although running it all day will help and may give a clear answer if it rises. You might try it as detailed in my article with just a couple of cups of water for an hour. :)

Well I got home and the couple of gallons that I had setting out is up to 8.03. Now I have all of the windows open and lots of fans blowing to help stir the air. I'm going to throw the airstone into my sump, maybe that will help some. I also picked up a new dKH test kit on my way home and tested my water. Huge number here of 210. So I am making water right now to initiate a water change and try to bring that down a little and maybe at the same time that will help to bring up my pH. I'll let you know, thanks for the help.

Oh OK. I thought that 210 was way to high. Oh well I guess I'll change some water just because I didn't this weekend because I was worried about the pH. Thanks
