Will low phosphates inhibit the growth of Caulerpa and Chaeto in my newly set up fuge? I understand that Algae require both phosphates and some nitrates in order to thrive.
Your nitrates and phosphates might be low BECAUSE of the chaeto quickly absorbing them as soon as they are released as metabolites of your animals. As long as your chaeto is growing, you can be sure they're getting the nutrients they need.
A good light will help the cheato grow quickly and keep the bad stuff out of your main display tank. I use this light. It works so good it's unbelievable.
